Towards theranostic applications of photopharmacology

Light offers unparalled advantages in regulation of compound bioactivity
(photopharmacology, Figure 1A) 1-3 and as an input/output signal in medical
(mostly optical) imaging. 4-5 Combination of those two paradigms along the
principles of theranostics (“treat what you see, see what you treat”) reuires light-
responsive tools that, preferably in combination, enable both therapy and
imaging.

I will present our efforts towards the discovery of such tools, focusing on new (i)
photopharmacological agents, (ii) molecular photoresponsive tools and (iii) new
light-responsive, MRI-active liposomal drug delivery agents (Figure 1B).
