Leona Hemrica - Chair
HeyHay! My name is Leona, 21 years old, a third-year chemist, and the chair this year! Being chair is objectively the most “important” function, because of course I would not be able to do it on my own, hence why I have my lovely board! But I manage the meetings and make sure that everything gets done, of course!
Besides my love for chemistry, I also really love to draw and do graphic design. I used to make the posters for the committees I was in, but now I manage the beautiful slides you see in the lounge and the posts on Insta. I also really love music, it’s how I destress of focus depending on what kind of music I listen to. I also play guitar and write my own songs from time to time. Maybe one day I will be confident enough to show you.
As for sports, I really love swimming and playing football. I have been a goalie for almost 12 years now (…crazy). Most people who know me also know that this usually gets me injured (oops), so don’t look too surprised if I show up with a limp. Besides the unfortunate injuries, it's still my favourite way to empty my head.
I am very excited to be in board this year, and I hope to make many, many new memories with all of you!! Please don’t hesitate to approach me whenever you see me around. I bet I've got a story to tell about one of my hyper-fixations or answer any questions you might have! And if you wanna bribe me to make your poster, one ginger ale would suffice!
Pretzel out
Leona
Diana Badita - Secretary
Dearest CBers,
My name is Diana, and this year I have the pleasure of being the Secretary of De Chemische Binding! This entails me spending a lot of time staring at a gmail inbox, being neurotic about scheduling, and fighting for my life writing minutes at the GMM. You might already know me as that ambiguously alternative looking girl with big eyeliner.
I am 21 years old (feels fake to write, I very much still feel 16), and up until the age of 19 I lived in Brasov, Romania. I ended up in Groningen after basically blindly choosing my degree, and I had the extreme luck of falling in love both with Chemistry, as well as our association. This is how I ended up doing a part-time Board year, finishing up the 3rd year of my studies and subjugating gmail on the side. You can mostly find me in the lounge, where I usually hog the table either doing board work or making aesthetically pleasing notes for my courses. Otherwise I’m probably locked up in the UB studying, simultaneously rethinking my life choices.
I try to spend as much of my little free time either with my friends or boyfriend, or making progress on my ever growing stack of books that await to be read. I usually end up playing the one video game that I’m hyperfixated on and dying a bunch. I am also quite the metalhead, so I find a lot of solace in listening to my music, and I try to go to as many shows as possible; being in the moshpit is my personal kind of therapy.
That’s basically it, if you see me around feel free to spark up a conversation, I can be very friendly if I’m caffeinated enough (which is likely, as De CB now supports my addiction by selling Monsters in the lounge-my favorite is the Monarch).
Pressing send,
Diana
Calin Sagarceanu- Treasurer
Hi, I am Călin, this year’s friendly neighborhood Treasurer. This means I am in charge of De Chemische Binding’s finances. With the help of my little helpers (committee treasurers), I will do my best to ensure that your favourite association has the funds to be as amazing as it always is. Late in the night you might hear weeping from the board room, but I assure you that is normal. It is my weekly abusive interaction with accounting and banking software. At less unholy hours, you will see me around the lounge oscillating between working on board or uni stuff.
I was born and raised in Bucharest, Romania, somehow being the second Romanian treasurer this association has had. This means I am well trained in the art of money launde… sorry, I mean handling. So you can trust all of your valuable assets with me. I am currently in the third (and hopefully final) year of my bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. I am quite the video game connoisseur, but I also enjoy many other nerdy hobbies. However, I can find many things interesting, so feel free to yap to me about whatever topic you want. Just be careful, I might start yapping back and there is no knowing when I will stop.
Well, that is about all my creativity gone, so if you want to know more about me, my duties or whatever else, feel free to approach me.
Hope to see you around,
Calin
P.S. I know Mars takes ‘free’ snacks ‘behind my back’. I will invoice him for all of them at the end of the year.
Marcell Beke - Commissioner of Internal Affairs & Vice-Chair
Hello and good morning, lovely CBeauties.
My name is Marcell, and I am the resident emotional support Hungarian of the current board. Everyone calls me Mars tho, so feel free to do the same.
I have the honour of being the Commissioner of Internal affairs (or intern for short) and Vice-chair of board 59. In other words, they pay me to yap with everyone in the lounge (which I would do anyways), and by pay I mean I sometimes take free Doritos or Stroopwafels without Calin noticing.
My responsibilities can be divided into two parts:
As an intern I am the official contact person between the board and the members of the association. This of course doesn’t mean you can’t talk or ask questions to other board members (I will be a bit jealous tho), but that I am always available to help or chat (during working hours), and I can help you with most association-related questions.
My other task is to oversee and guide the committees that organise events and do other things in the association. I try and will ultimately fail to restrict the ball of chaos that is the current Spaxie, and I keep up to date with all committee works. If you are interested in joining a committee, just hit me up (and don’t forget to bring a bribe).
Hailing from the distant metropolis of Budapest, my life wasn’t always about board (still isn’t, we’re part time, after all). I love to play the keys and sing, which I do so in our band, the CeeBees. Other hobbies of mine include reading, hitting the gym or going for a run, and (if board didn’t take all my time) playing DnD. And although I’m not a big drinker, I do love a good glass of red wine or the occasional glass of scotch.
If you see me at the lounge or at a borrel, and I’m currently not crying over one of the committees blackmailing me for CoCo points, feel free to come over and say hi.
Sending the warmest of hugs and regards,
Marcell “Mars” Zoltán Beke
Oscar Price-Nowak - Commissioner of External Affairs
Hi! I’m Oscar, Commissioner of External Affairs.
My job is basically to find all of you jobs and to bring in money for the association while doing it. One of the best ways to land that dream internship or get in touch with a company you’d love to work for in the future is through me. So, if you want to build connections, get a foot in the door, or just figure out what kind of company might fit you come along to my company excursions! They’re fun, informal, and genuinely one of the easiest ways to network.
I grew up in the UK, so I’m deeply rooted in British culture. I love a good cuppa, sing “It’s Coming Home” non-stop during the World Cup, and have perfected the art of smashing pints at the pub. At the same time, I’m also really proud of my Dutch heritage. I love surprising people by suddenly switching to Dutch mid-sentence, and yes I moved here because it’s affordable and the education is honestly just better.
If you see me around, don’t hesitate to come and chat in English or Dutch! (I also speak German and a tiny bit of Indonesian, if you want to test me!)
Agustina German - Commissioner of Educational Affairs
Heya Lovely CBers, Agustina here!
You might know me as that girl that hangs out with that Romanian girl and is always talking about this exam and that course, but I also happen to be the Educational Affairs of our association (part-time as I am currently doing my third - and hopefully last - year of the Chemistry Bachelors), meaning if you see me stressing out about exams it is very much so in my job description. Don’t worry about it, trust.
In my sparingly available free time I like to read, do crafts and cook (although this has been lately limited to meal prepping, something I’ve turned into an art at this point).
Coming from Argentina with an extended stay in Ireland I’ve developed what one might call a “yappy” personality, that is to say I can and will befriend a plastic plant if given the chance. This is a very handy skill as an Edu as yapping is extremely useful to secure that academic goss (what people in the know call gossip).
Some of my other tasks include looking after and updating our lovely Educational tab on the website, hosting the Food Market, and generally looking after all of our panicking students (those that have survived Synthesis 1 and all those who have yet to experience it).
If you ever see me around in the lounge or at a borrel talking in Spanish to two CB members who are totally Chemists, don’t hesitate to come talk or ask me anything you want to know either about my duties or about a course (I’d love to say I know all the answers but I might sneak a peek at Ocasys when you aren’t looking).
Looking forward to having an amazing year with you all!
Educationally yours,
Agustina German
