Alexandra Ioana Sintamarian - Chair
Wazzaaaah lovely CB people,
My name is Alex and I’m the Chair of the 60th Board of De Chemische Binding. This is quite the new experience for me since I have not done any committees in the past, but hey, it is always nice to start with a bang! As the Chair of our Association, I make sure everything runs smoothly by overseeing the rest of my hard-working Board. My job also includes making schedules, organizing and leading meetings and of course spending as much time as I can with you guys.
More about me, I am from Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania in Romania, so yeah, I know a thing or two about vampires, but in my 323 years I unfortunately haven’t met one. Jokes aside, I am 23 years old and in my first year of the Chemistry Master. Besides my love for organic chemistry, my interests also include playing guitar and drums, reading, Formula 1, aviation, mountaineering and general knowledge trivia. I am also very much an animal lover, since I have a cat and a dog at home that I miss very much.
I love spending time with my friends as much as I can and you will almost always find me in the lounge, ready to discuss whatever niche subject you might be interested in. Rest assured, I will more than likely also be just as invested in it. In my free time, I also like going to the gym and playing sports such as basketball or tennis. I am also an occasional football enjoyer; mostly following FC Barcelona and international football. I also sometimes like going on a night out in Groningen, but I would consider myself more of a home body.
Lastly, I would consider myself a decent chef, since I sometimes like to go all out by trying to follow hard and lengthy food recipes. I’m always down for a nice home cooked meal! That’s everything from my side, so don’t be afraid to come say hi in the lounge or at any of our other events; I am always down for a nice conversation. See you guys around and let's have an amazing year together!
With love,
Alex
Nyein Sithu - Secretary
Dearest CBers,
My name is Nyein Sithu, but please call me Nate. This year I have the honour of serving as the Secretary of De Chemische Binding, which means I'll be the one lurking behind the association's inbox, keeping the agenda in check, and frantically typing the minutes at every GMM while you all debate. If you've received an email from the board this year, there's a good chance I was the villain behind it.
I'm 22 years old and originally from Myanmar. I'm currently in the third year of my Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, which I balance alongside my board year and a healthy amount of questioning my own sanity. Outside of my studies, I'm involved in activism against the military coup in Myanmar and a few other associations, working together with fellow students for the cause. It's something very close to my heart, so feel free to ask me about it.
When I'm not buried in emails or lab reports, you'll probably find me out somewhere in the city, usually when the sun is set. I will defend Groningen as the best city to go out to anyone who dares to disagree, as it's a community itself that I feel like home since I got here. My taste in music falls into two categories, either loud enough to rattle your bones, or sad enough to crush your soul, with very little in between. I'm also a loyal (and long-suffering) Manchester United supporter, so if you see me looking miserable on a weekend, you now know why. My remaining free time goes to watching films, unplanned hangouts, and beautiful side quests.
That's me in a nutshell. If you see me around the lounge, don't be afraid to come say hi. I'm much friendlier than my persona suggests, and I'm always up for a conversation about music, football, film, or anything else on your mind.
Nding message,
Nate
Hai Yen Le - Treasurer
Hello there lovely CB people!
My name is Yen and I am very proud to say that I am your Treasurer for the year! My job description? Keep us from bankruptcy and give committees enough money to pull off their amazing events. Besides being the bookkeeper, I also like to refer to myself as the Albert Heijn stock employee, keeping the lounge snacks and borrel drinks fully loaded. So yes, I am the person to complain to when there are no more bapaos in the fridge – which happens concerningly often.
You may find me in the lounge at ungodly hours counting stock, staring at seemingly infinite excel sheets or waiting for my accounting software to recover from yet another crash. But don’t worry too much, it is all very much worth it in the end, when I see people’s faces light up over a new special beer I ordered for a borrel.
A bit about me: I am 21, originally from Vietnam, but I was born and raised in Hungary. Alternatively, you may already know me as the pocket-sized board member, or as Chris would say: “she’s about 2 centimeters”. Besides the board year, I am currently ̶h̶a̶r̶d̶l̶y̶ working hard on the first year of my Chemistry Master’s. In my free time I enjoy doing all sorts of sports, and after three dreadful years of waiting, I finally got into a volleyball team so you may even find me at my matches (but I sincerely hope that you don’t because we are objectively very bad).
Last but not least, I have a love for baking which I never spare enough time for. So if you are ever craving some baked goods, please don’t hesitate to ask! For a small bribe I might just whip up something…
Financial regards,
Yen
Vera-Lynn de Jong - Commissioner of Internal- & Educational Affairs
Hey hoi lieve mensen!
My name is Vera-Lynn (but Vera is preferred), and I’m super happy to be your Internal & Educational Affairs for the upcoming year! But what does that actually mean, besides having two functions and twice the amount of things to forget? ;)
As your Intern, I make sure our committees are filled, keep an eye on whether everything is running smoothly, and read all your lovely meeting minutes (purely for administrative purposes, of course, and definitely not for the gossip ;)). You can usually find me in the lounge or boardroom, where I’m always down for a coffee and a yap. Work can wait, right?
As your Edu, things get a tiny bit more serious. If you have any feedback on the programme, good or bad, feel free to come to me! I will happily pass it on to our amazing programme directors and lovingly annoy them until your feedback has been heard. I also keep the exam database and summaries up to date on the website, so you have all the resources you need.
Honestly, I love the combination of these two functions. They somehow manage to combine chaos and structure, which is also a pretty accurate description of me. It’s impressive how someone can be both extremely organised and completely disorganised at the same time!
To give you some insights about me: I’m 21 and a first-year Master’s student in Chemistry: Research & Education. I love working in the lab, but I also really enjoy teaching, so naturally, I decided to combine the two. Because apparently, having one thing to do wasn’t enough. Besides CB, I’m also in my fourth year at Dizkartes (god, I’m already feeling like an old dick without actually being old).
When I’m not busy with CB or my studies, you can usually find me cuddling with cats (and probably trying to befriend every single one I come across). Luckily, my neighbourhood makes this very easy! Besides my obvious cat obsession, I enjoy reading, cooking and sports but I’m sure the rest of my lovely board has already given you enough information about their hobbies, so I’ll spare you the full autobiography.
Anyway, if you have feedback, questions, committee chaos, juicy gossip, or simply feel like having a coffee and a yap, you know where to find me!
Yours in gossip,
Vera
Chris Kloppenberg - Commissioner of External Affairs & Vice-Chair
Moi eem!
My name is Chris, and this year I will be the Commissioner of external affairs of the association. This means I am responsible for providing our members with opportunities for career orientation, and acquire sponsorships to keep the association running. So if you need help with finding an internship or case study, do not hesitate to reach out!
Aside from being in the board, I am also working on my Msc thesis. So if you cannot find me in the lounge, I am probably struggling in a lab somewhere. I love to do sports (kickboxing, climbing, swimming), and really enjoy playing music. I am especially interested in Blues and jazz. And if you ever want to nerd out about pokemon or something else, you can talk to me.
I am not very organised, so sometimes you will have to be a bit patient with me. But if you ever need help with anything (especially if it involves annoying Vera) I am always happy to help!
Nding message,
Chris
