Dear members,

On the 10th of November, we will visit Wetsus, European Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Water Technology, in Leeuwarden. Wetsus is an organization that works on water technology research in collaboration with a multitude of partners. They even work together with multiple universities, including the University of Groningen, on the Msc Water Technology

There is free lunch provided, so make sure to tell your dietary preferences when signing up!

We will travel by train from Groningen to Leeuwarden and back and you will have to buy your own tickets. You can get a reimbursement through De CB if you have proof of payment.

If you are already wondering what water technology entails, here is a small taste of what Wetsus does!

From groundwater wells, to biologically recovered resources, pipe inspection robots and rain factories in the desert, water technology is a field with a wide reach – comprising of the tech sector, to wastewater treatment facilities and even farmer cooperations. Water technology is a conglomeration of several natural sciences – from physics to microbiology. And in terms of chemistry, knowledge on chemical engineering is key to operations like wastewater treatment plants, but also resource recovery facilities. So is electrochemistry to capture CO2 in water, make hydrogen from seawater, or reuse ammonia. And have you thought about processes to do with polymerization of bioplastics, new membranes and nanogel coatings, or getting the right microbial chains to replace oil-based flocculants. Come and discover this fascinating world with us that is often hidden away, yet is key in our lives and perhaps the ideal place for working on a sustainable world.

Attending this event also counts for the "Industrial Visits and Professional Skills" (Chemical Engineering) or "Career Skills" (Chemistry) course, points for this course count as extra credit on your diploma, for more information you can contact the study advisors or the board of De Chemische Binding.

We hope to see you there!
