Chemical Reaction Networks in Soft Materials and Biomedical Applications
Rienk Eelkema, TU Delft
Living systems use biochemical reaction networks to interact with their environment, for signaling, and to create dynamic functions driven by the conversion of chemical energy. In the presentation, I will show attempts to introduce such concepts to non-living chemical systems and soft materials. I will show how to design fuel-driven chemical reaction networks and how to use these to change the interactions between polymers, how to render such materials responsive to external signals, and how to use elements of these networks to make responsive materials for biomedical applications including combined radio-chemotherapy.
